societies

Dost started playing football at CVV Germanicus Coevorden at the age of five and moved to the youth department of FC Emmen at the age of twelve .

In 2007 he was accepted into the professional team of FC Emmen and scored 6 goals in 23 league games in his first professional season in the second-rate Eerste Divisie . He moved to the first division Heracles Almelo in the Eredivisie after the season . There he met 17 times in 61 league games. With Almelo he finished sixth in the 2009/10 season . In 2010 he moved within the league to SC Heerenveen . He scored 13 goals in 32 games in his first season there. There was also another goal in two games in the KNVB Cup . In the 2011/12 season he scored all the goals for a 5-0 away win in the game at Excelsior Rotterdam in December 2011. This season, Dost scored 32 times in 34 Eredivisie appearances and was the top scorer. He also scored six times in five cup games for Heerenveen.

For the 2012/13 season , Dost moved to VfL Wolfsburg with a contract term until June 30, 2017. On August 25, 2012, he scored the winning goal in his Bundesliga debut in the 90th minute in the away game against VfB Stuttgart . In the 4-1 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf on matchday 9, he scored two goals for the first time in a Bundesliga game; on February 14, 2015, he scored four goals in a 5-4 win at Bayer 04 Leverkusen . With the Wolfsburg team he won the DFB Cup at the end of the season and was runner-up. In January 2016, Dost suffered a metatarsal fracture during training.

On August 28, 2016, the Portuguese first division club Sporting Lisbon signed him . In the 2016/17 season , Dost was the top scorer in the Primeira Liga with 34 goals in 31 games. In January 2018 he won the league cup with the team . In the 2017/18 season he finished second on the top scorer list with 27 goals in 30 appearances. After Sporting Lisbon failed to qualify for the Champions League in May 2018 , violent supporters stormed the club's training grounds and dressing room, with Dost sustaining a head injury. Thereupon Dost - in addition to coach Jorge Jesus , Bruno Fernandes , Gelson Martins , Rui Patrício , Daniel Podence and William Carvalho - canceled his contract at the end of the season because there were “valid motives” for a unilateral contract termination. On July 21, 2018, Dost signed a new contract with a term until June 30, 2021. In the 2018/19 season, Dost scored 15 goals in 22 appearances.

At the end of August 2019, Dost returned to the Bundesliga for a transfer fee of seven million euros, which can increase by 500,000 euros , and signed a contract with Eintracht Frankfurt until June 30, 2022.
