Adolf "Adi" Hütter (born February 11, 1970 in Hohenems ) is an Austrian football coach and former player . He has been the head coach of Eintracht Frankfurt since 2018 .

career

Player career

Adi Hütter played soccer at SCR Altach in his youth . In 1992 the midfielder moved to the Grazer AK and later to SV Austria Salzburg . With the team he was three times Austrian champion and won the Supercup.

In the 1993/94 season he made it to the UEFA Cup final with Salzburg, where he lost 1-0 to Inter Milan twice. Hütter was a performance factor for the Salzburg team in this UEFA Cup season as well as in the following Champions League and championship games. With his goals, often resulting from long shots, he also played his way into the Austrian national soccer team , for which he played a total of 14 international matches and scored three goals.

In 2000, Hütter switched to the Grazer AK. After two years, the Vorarlberger played for Kapfenberger SV in the first division , only to switch to the amateur team of FC Red Bull Salzburg at the beginning of the 2005/06 season . Here he was a leading player and won the 2006/07 championship of the Regionalliga West with the team , which also meant promotion to the first division.

Coaching career

Adi Hütter (2014)

Because of a stubborn inflammation of the Achilles tendon , Hütter ended his active career on August 20, 2007. He decided to work as a trainer from now on. Together with Gerald Baumgartner, he took over co-training alongside Lars Søndergaard at Red Bull Juniors and was responsible for the special training. From the 2008/09 season he was the head coach of the Red Bull Juniors .

In June 2009, Hütter was introduced as the coach of SCR Altach , who had been relegated from the Bundesliga . In April 2012 he was released because he did not achieve the promotion to the highest league required by the club in the third attempt. He switched to league competitor SV Grödig , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga in the 2012/13 season. In his first season as a Bundesliga coach, he reached third place, which qualified for qualification in the Europa League. Then he did not renew his contract.

In May 2014, Hütter was introduced as the new coach of FC Red Bull Salzburg , as the successor to Roger Schmidt , who moved to Leverkusen. Hütter won the championship and the cup with the team in his first season; Despite these successes, Hütter agreed an amicable separation with the sporting director Ralf Rangnick , as in Hütter's opinion the team had lost quality for the next season after important players were sold.

In September 2015, Adi Hütter was introduced as the new coach of BSC Young Boys from Bern . After becoming runner-up with YB twice, he led the Bernese to their first championship in 32 years in the 2017/18 season ; He broke through the winning streak of FC Basel , which previously won eight championship titles in a row.

For the 2018/19 season , Hütter was the successor to Niko Kovač as coach at Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt , the contract is valid until June 30, 2021. The start was initially bumpy. With Eintracht, Hütter lost his first competitive game in the DFL Supercup against FC Bayern Munich with 0: 5 on August 12, 2018 and his team was eliminated in the first main round of the DFB Cup against fourth division club SSV Ulm 1846 . After a few games, however, the harmony began. From September to November 2018, the team was unbeaten in eleven competitive games, and a similar series was achieved in the second half of the season. Frankfurt was the first German team to win all group games in the Europa League . His team played their way up to the semi-finals , in which they lost on penalties to Chelsea . At the end of the 2018/19 season, Eintracht finished the Bundesliga with 54 points in seventh place in the table and thus reached the Europa League qualifying round . Hütter was voted Trainer of the Year in the annual Bild reader survey, and Frankfurt was voted Team of the Year.
