Gonçalo Mendes Paciência (born August 1, 1994 in Porto ) is a Portuguese football player . The striker is under contract with Eintracht Frankfurt and is a senior international .

Career

In the club

Paciência is the son of the 34-time Portuguese national football player Domingos Paciência . He was born in Porto and has played for the youth teams of FC Porto since he was eight . On January 12, 2014 he made his professional debut when he ran up for the club's reserve selection in the 2-0 win against Portimonense SC in the Segunda Liga . His debut in the professional team took place on January 21, 2015 as part of a league cup game against Sporting Braga . In order to be used regularly in the Primeira Liga , Paciência switched to Académica de Coimbra on loan for the 2015/16 season . Later there were further lending deals to Olympiacos , Rio Ave FC and Vitória Setúbal . Paciência played the second half of the 2017/18 season again at his home club in Porto and won the Portuguese championship with them.

In the 2018/19 season, Paciência moved to Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt . His contract is valid until June 30, 2022. On August 18, 2018, he scored his first goal for Frankfurt in his first competitive game in the 1: 2 defeat in the DFB Cup match against SSV Ulm 1846 . Because of a tear in the meniscus in his left knee, he did not play again in the first round. Paciência made his Bundesliga debut on February 17, 2019 in a 1-1 draw at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach . On March 2, 2019, he scored his first Bundesliga goal for Eintracht by scoring the 3-2 final score in stoppage time against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim .

His contract in Frankfurt runs until 2023.

In the national team

Paciência has played over 50 international matches for Portugal's junior national team. With the U21 selection , he took part in the 2015 U21 European Championship , where he played three times as a substitute and reached the final. In 2016 Paciência was in the Portuguese squad at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . On November 14, 2017 Paciência made his debut as part of a friendly match against the United States in the senior team . He was then not appointed for about two years before he was again considered for two European Championship qualifiers in mid-November 2019. There he scored his first goal for the senior national team in a 6-0 win against Lithuania .
