Rio Ave FC is on 6. May 1939 , founded and named after the river Ave named Portuguese football club , in Vila do Conde , in the north of Portugal , is native and its home games in the stadium Estádio dos Arcos discharges.
The greatest success is reaching the cup final in 1984, which was lost to FC Porto with 1: 4 goals. In the 2007/08 season , Rio Ave rose to the first division, the Primeira Liga .
In 2014 they reached the cup final for the second time and lost it 0-1 against Benfica Lisbon . With this, Rio Ave entered the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League as a cup finalist . In the qualifying round, Rio Ave prevailed against IFK Göteborg , in the play-offs against another Swedish club, IF Elfsborg . In the subsequent group stage of the competition, Rio Ave was only fourth behind Dynamo Kiev , Aalborg BK and Steaua Bucharest and eliminated. Nevertheless, this was the greatest international success of the club.
