The Clube Desportivo das Aves , CD Aves for short and mostly Desportivo Aves in the German-speaking area , is a sports club from the Portuguese community of Vila das Aves near Santo Tirso in the north of the country. In addition to the football department, the club also has football schools for young players and two very successful futsal teams for women and men.

history

The association was founded on November 12, 1930. After the first division season 1985/86 the club was relegated and then played for 14 years in lower class leagues in Portugal before being promoted back to the Primeira Liga in 2000 . However, immediate relegation followed. Until the 2005/06 season Desportivo das Aves was always at the top of the Liga de Honra (honor league). Then the renewed promotion to the Primeira League succeeded, which, however, was followed by the direct relegation. The club has been playing first class again since the 2017/18 season . During the season, the club also achieved the greatest success in its history by winning the Portuguese Cup in the final against Sporting Lisbon , which would have made Aves qualify for the European Cup for the first time. In the absence of a license for European club competitions, Aves was not given a starting place.
