Vila das Aves is a municipality ( freguesia ) in Portugal . It is located in the north of the country and belongs to the Santo Tirso district . Vila das Aves has an area of ​​6.2 km² and 8,458 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011), which corresponds to a population density of 1,373 inhabitants / km².

On April 4, 1955, the place was given the status of small town ( Vila ), which was then also integrated into the previous name Aves .

Between 1960 and 1975, many people from Vila das Aves worked as guest workers in the Lorraine textile industry. In 1986, this resulted in the partnership with the municipality of Saint-Étienne-lès-Remiremont, which still exists today .

Sports

The football club Desportivo Aves competes in the Primeira Liga in the 2018/19 season and won the Taça de Portugal in 2018 .
