Quim [ ] (born  November 13, 1975 in Vila Nova de Famalicão , Portugal ; actually Joaquim Manuel Sampaio Silva ) is a former Portuguese football goalkeeper .

Career

society

Quim comes from the youth of the Portuguese club Sporting Braga . There he played until 2004. Then he moved to the record champions SL Benfica . Probably his greatest personal success was in the 2009 Taça da Liga final (against Sporting CP ), when he took SL Benfica to victory in the penalty shoot-out, saving three penalties. In 2010 he moved back to Braga on a free transfer. After a total of 14 seasons at his home club Sporting Braga, Quim announced in May 2013 that he would not renew his contract. Shortly thereafter, he signed a contract with the Portuguese second division club Desportivo Aves .

National team

With the national team he took part in the European Championships in 2000 and 2004 , as well as in the World Cup in 2006 as a reserve keeper. His only appearance was in the last and insignificant preliminary round match of EURO 2000 against Germany , when he came on for Pedro Espinha in the 90th minute . He did not take part in the 2002 World Cup because he tested positive for nandrolone during a doping control and was banned for six months.

At the EM 2008 he was nominated again as a substitute goalkeeper, but injured his wrist during training and was replaced by Nuno Espírito Santo .
