Pedro Espinha (born September 25, 1965 in Mafra ) is a former Portuguese football player . The goalkeeper was from 1984 to 2003 for various Portuguese clubs as well as from 1998 to 2000 in the national team of Portugal active.

Career

society

Espinha's career began in 1984 with the lower class club CD Cova da Piedade and then in 1985 with SCU Torreense . A year later he moved to the oldest sports club in Portugal, Académica Coimbra . There he had his first assignment in the men's division in the 1986/87 season. But it didn't last long there either and in the summer of 1987 he joined Sacavenense . He stayed loyal to the club for two years before moving to the second division Belenenses . At the capital club, he worked hard for himself between the posts. He played for the tartlets until 1994. At SC Salgueiros, where he presented the club's colors from 1994 to 1997, he was immediately the first choice. For the 1997/98 season there was another change within Portugal. Vitória Guimarães became Espinha's new employer . There he performed well again and attracted the interest of FC Porto , which signed him in 2000. In Porto he should compete with top dog and national team colleague Vítor Baía . However, he only managed one mission in two years. Disappointed, he turned his back on the dragons and joined Vitória Setúbal for one final professional season .

National team

By performing well in the league, he made his debut for the Portuguese national team against Israel in 1998 . In 2000 he was appointed to the squad of the European Championship by national coach Humberto Coelho . In the last and insignificant preliminary round match against Germany , he came to his only use in the tournament. Shortly before the end of the game, he was substituted for Quim . The game ended 3-0 for Portugal.
