Alfredo Mozinho Esteves (born April 6, 1976 in Lisbon , Portugal ; often just called Alfredo for short ) is a former East Timorese football player . He also has a Portuguese passport.

The defender played for the Portuguese club Grupo Deportivo Gafanha from his youth until 2003 . Then Esteves moved to the New Hampshire Phantoms in the USA . There he was not used, however, and after a few months moved back to Portugal to União Desportiva da Tocha .

In 2004, Esteves joined FC Oliveira do Hospital . Here he played 28 times and scored a goal. He was one of the leading players on the team. His performance was not hidden from the scouts of the ambitious second division team Desportivo Aves , who lured the player to Vila das Aves at the beginning of the 2005/06 season . At the end of the season Aves rose to the SuperLiga ; Esteves had only made one mission.

In 2006 Alfredo Esteves decided to make another attempt in the USA. He signed with the second division Minnesota Thunder , for whom he played until 2007. Since January 2008, the defender has been under contract with Wollongong FC in the second Australian division .

After the independence of East Timor , the homeland of his parents, and the recognition of the Federação Futebol Timor-Leste by FIFA , Alfredo Esteves decided to play for the East Timorese national team. He played six games for the selection of his country between 2004 and 2008 and was their captain.

In addition to his native Portuguese , Esteves also speaks English , Spanish and Italian .
