The FC Paços de Ferreira is a football club of the Portuguese city of Paços de Ferreira in the north of the country.

history

The club played for the first time in the 1991/1992 season in the first division of Portugal, but subsequently rose several times and again. Most recently, Paços Ferreira was in the 2003/04 season in the Primeira Liga , the country's first division, was relegated in 17th position and made direct resurgence as a champion in the 2004/05 second division season .

After the club established itself in the top division of Portugal and regularly achieved midfield placements , Ferreira came third in the 2012/13 season and achieved the greatest success in the club's history with qualifying for the play-off round for the UEFA Champions League . The first leg, played in Porto , was lost 4-1 to Zenit Saint Petersburg from Russia. Also in the second leg they lost to the Russians, this time with 2: 4. The club then started in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League , where they were eliminated with 3 points. The national league paid tribute to the additional games and was penultimate. Due to the changed relegation regulation (the league was increased from 16 to 18 clubs) Paços de Ferreira played relegation matches against the fourth in the Segunda Liga, Desportivo Aves , and managed to stay up with a 0-0 away and a 3-1 at home.

In the 2017/18 season , they were relegated to the Segunda Liga as the penultimate and as champions of the LigaPro 2018/19 straight up again.

Remarkable

The team is known in Portugal as "Os Castores" (The Beavers). The reason is that the name literally means "woodworker", as Paços de Ferreira is considered the center of the furniture industry in Portugal.
