Paços de Ferreira is a municipality and city in Portugal . It is the seat of a district ( concelho ) with 56,340 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011) on an area of ​​71 km².

Paços de Ferreira is also Capital do Móvel ( port. For capital of furniture) called, as many here furniture manufacturing operations are located.

history

Finds prove a prehistoric settlement. In the municipality of Sanfins de Ferreira , the Citânia de Sanfins can be visited, the remains of a settlement from the Castro culture , which was remodeled and settled by the Romans .

The current place was probably created during the settlement policy in connection with the Reconquista . The first mention of a local village comes from the 11th century. In 1258 the place was already recorded as Vila de Ferreira in the royal registers. King D. Manuel I gave it first city rights in 1514.

The independent district of Paços de Ferreira was created in 1836 as part of various administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 . Paços de Ferreira was previously part of the Penafiel district .

In 1993 the previous small town ( Vila ) was elevated to a town ( Cidade ).

Sports

The football club FC Paços de Ferreira plays in the first Portuguese league, the Primeira Liga . He plays his home games at the Estádio da Mata Real . Trailers and assets of the Association are sometimes Os Castores ( port. For: the beaver) called what is related to wood processing, with which the city is traditionally associated.

The first football team of SC Freamunde , from the municipality of Freamunde , plays in the second highest league, the Segunda League . Paços de Ferreira is the seat of a district of the same name ( concelho ). The neighboring areas are (starting clockwise in the north): Santo Tirso , Lousada , Paredes and Valongo .

With the regional reform in September 2013 , several municipalities were merged into new municipalities, so that the number of municipalities decreased from 16 to twelve.

The city is connected to Ermida and Lousada by the A42 Autoestrada .

The public transport (public transport) is 15 local and regional bus services of the local car Viação Pacense ensured -Verkehrsgesellschaft.
