Marisa Barros (born February 25, 1980 in Paços de Ferreira , Portugal , according to other information in Porto as Elsa Marisa Branco Barros Rodrigues ) is a Portuguese marathon runner and two-time Olympian (2008, 2012).

Career

2008 Summer Olympics

In 2007 she won the Porto Marathon in 2:31:31 hours. She was then nominated for the marathon of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where she finished 32nd.

In 2009 she set a course record at the Seville Marathon with 2:26:03 h. Before that, only two Portuguese women were faster: Rosa Mota and Maria Manuela Machado . At the World Athletics Championships in Berlin she was sixth in 2:26:50 h.

In 2010 she finished second in the Osaka Women's Marathon in 2:25:45 h with a personal best . With the team she won the gold medal for Portugal at the European Cross Country Championships in December 2010.

2012 Summer Olympics

In 2012, the 1.60 meter tall Barros weighed in at a competition weight of 50 kg. The athlete, who was trained by Antonio Ascensao and started for the Sport Lisboa e Benfica club , was also part of the Portuguese team for the 2012 Summer Olympics . In London she covered the Olympic marathon distance in 2:26:13 hours. This placed them in 13th place in the final ranking.

In 2014 she finished 20th at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich.

In July 2016, the 36-year-old won the gold medal for Portugal in the women's half marathon at the European Athletics Championships.
