Lousada received its first city rights in 1514 from King Manuel I , who also elevated the place to a vila .

economy

In the secondary sector , in addition to furniture and shoe manufacturing, the textile industry in particular is of major importance.

In the primary sector , in addition to forestry and wood processing, agriculture is a traditionally important factor in the district. The cultivation of maize, dairy farming and the production of Vinho Verde , a specifically northern Portuguese wine specialty, should be mentioned here. Potatoes, beans and melons are also important crops. Corn and wine have always been particularly influential here, as shown in the town's coat of arms.

traffic

The Linha do Douro railway runs through the municipality. The Meinedo stop is closest to the district town of Lousada, about 6 km to the north .

Lousada is located on the A42 motorway , which here meets the A11 , which runs from north to south .
