Lousada is a small town ( Vila ) and a district ( Concelho ) in Portugal with 47,387 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
history
Finds prove a prehistoric settlement at least since the Neolithic . The Romans met here around the 3rd century BC. BC to Iron Age settlements, which they romanized in the course of their conquest from the 2nd century on . A large number of finds and excavations of houses, Roman roads and bridges show a relatively dense Roman settlement in today's district.
Lousada was officially documented for the first time in the 6th century AD. Previously known as São Salvador de Lousada , the place was listed as Santa Margarida de Lousada during the royal surveys in 1220 . Lousada received its first city rights in 1514 from King Manuel I , who also elevated the place to a vila .
In 1708 the district of Lousada extended over 12 parishes. In 1758 the number rose to 18. During the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 , the Lousada district was dissolved in 1836 . From 1838 Lousada became independent again, with 25 parishes since then.
Sports
Immediately on the outskirts of Lousada is the Eurocircuito de Lousada , a small permanent race track , on the 1991 to 2008 (except for 2007) each year, up to 20,000 spectators races for FIA - Rallycross - and autocross - European Championship from home de Clube Automóvel Lousada (CAL) were held.
Other sports clubs in the district include the Juventude Hóquei Clube , the Associação Desportiva de Lousada , and the Aparecida Futebol Clube , among others. Tennis and karate modalities are other sporting focuses in the district.

Lousada is the seat of a district of the same name. The neighboring areas are (starting clockwise in the north): Vizela , Felgueiras , Amarante , Penafiel , Paredes , Paços de Ferreira and Santo Tirso .
With the regional reform in September 2013, several municipalities were merged into new municipalities, so that the number of municipalities decreased from 25 to 15.

economy
In the secondary sector , in addition to furniture and shoe manufacturing, the textile industry in particular is of major importance.
In the primary sector , in addition to forestry and wood processing, agriculture is a traditionally important factor in the district. The cultivation of maize, dairy farming and the production of Vinho Verde , a specifically northern Portuguese wine specialty, should be mentioned here. Potatoes, beans and melons are also important crops. Corn and wine have always been particularly influential here, as shown in the town's coat of arms.

The Linha do Douro railway runs through the municipality. The Meinedo stop is closest to the district town of Lousada, about 6 km to the north .
Lousada is located on the A42 motorway , which here meets the A11 , which runs from north to south .
