Meinedo is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Lousada . It has 4052 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

history

Finds show a Roman settlement. The following Alans , Suebi and Visigoths also lived here. In 1131 Portugal's first king D. Afonso Henriques gave the village to the Bishop of Porto . The church of the community called Santo Tirso do Meinedo was consecrated in 1262, since then the community has been independent.

Meinedo is listed as belonging to the Unhãos town charter from 1515. In 1758 Meinedo belonged to Penafiel . Meinedo has been part of the Lousada district since it was re-established and expanded in 1838.

Culture and sights

The single-nave late Romanesque parish church Igreja Paroquial de Meinedo (also Igreja de Santa Maria Maior or Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Neves ) from the 13th century goes back to an earlier church. It has been expanded several times and shows inside a. a. Mannerist altar retable made of gilded wood ( Talha dourada ) .

The parish of Meinedo celebrates the parish festival of Santo Tirso on the third Sunday in August , dedicated to St. Dedicated to Thyrsos . In the parish church, in the foundations of which remains of an earlier church built by Suebi and Visigoths were found, relics of Thyrsos are suspected. In addition, it is assumed in the place that he originally came from here, but this theory is considered unlikely. Every year on the second Sunday in September, the Festa de Nossa Senhora das Neves is another community festival.

In addition to the parish church, three other buildings in the parish are listed. In addition to the Capela de Santa Ana chapel , these are the medieval stone bridge Ponte de Espindo and the Torre da Casa de Ronfe , a preserved part of an 18th century mansion that dates back to a 16th century estate.

traffic

The place is a stop on the Linha do Douro railway line .

Meinedo is connected to the A11 motorway to the east via the 5 km long local road . The A4 runs 11 km south of the village (here also Europastraße 82 ).
