Jaime Moreira Pacheco (* 22. July 1958 in Paredes , Portugal ) is a Portuguese football manager and former football national team of Portugal.
Player career
Club teams
He began his professional career in 1978 as a defensive midfielder for FC Porto . There he stayed for six years until the end of the 1983/84 season, in which he was also able to win the Portuguese Cup , before moving to Sporting Lisbon . Jaime Pacheco moved to Lisbon in return for Paulo Futre . After two seasons he was sold to Porto again, where he won the national championship cup against FC Bayern Munich in 1987 . In the same year he won the European Supercup against Ajax Amsterdam and the World Cup against Peñarol Montevideo with FC Porto . In the following season he still managed to triumph in the Portuguese championship , as well as in the cup competition.
After the successful years at FC Porto, the now 31-year-old Jaime Pacheco moved to smaller clubs in the Portuguese league. In 1989 he moved to Vitória Setúbal , in 1991 to FC Paços de Ferreira . He ended his playing career with Sporting Braga in 1994.
National team
He made his debut for the Portuguese national team on February 23, 1983 against Germany in a friendly, which Portugal won 1-0. In his 25 international matches, he achieved participation in the European Football Championship in 1984 and the 1986 World Cup . He played his last game for Portugal on September 12, 1990 against Finland .
Coaching career
At the beginning of his coaching career he spent at small clubs. It was not until 1996 that he became a coach at Vitória Guimarães . Two seasons later he was signed by Boavista Porto , where he spent his most successful time to date. In 2001 he surprisingly won the first championship title in club history with Boavista . He also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup with Boavista in the 2002/03 season . There they lost to Celtic Glasgow , which means that the first final between two clubs from the same city did not take place because FC Porto made it into the final.
In 2003 he briefly coached RCD Mallorca , but returned to Boavista that same year. There he only stayed until the end of the season, as he began his second engagement with Vitória Guimarães in the following season, which lasted only a year before he was the third time coach of Boavista. This led to ninth place in the league in 2006/07. The following season the club was involved in a manipulation scandal and had to be relegated. For the new season Pacheco was then signed by Belenenses Lisbon . In May 2009 he was dismissed by the club board. In the summer of 2009, the Portuguese moved to Asia, where he became a coach at al-Shabab . This station did not last a whole year, and the football teacher was terminated again in April of the coming year.
From 2011 to 2012 Pacheco was a trainer at Beijing Guoan . After two years without commitment, he worked in the Arab region at al Zamalek SC in Egypt and for the second time at al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia . He returned to China in 2016 and has been Tianjin Teda's coach ever since .
