Felix Wiedwald (born March 15, 1990 in Thedinghausen ) is a German football goalkeeper . He is under contract with Eintracht Frankfurt .

career

In the club

Beginnings in Bremen

Wiedwald started playing football at TSV Achim. At the age of nine he moved to Werder Bremen , where he went through all youth departments and won the North German championship with the C and A juniors . In his last year of youth, he occasionally took part in the training of the professional squad, with whom he completed a training camp in January 2009. For the 2009/10 season he became part of the second team, for which he made his professional league debut on September 26, 2009 in a 2-2 away game at FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the third division . He then regularly guarded the gate of the reserve and received a professional contract dated until 2012 in February 2010.

Via Duisburg to Frankfurt

In the summer of 2011, Wiedwald moved to MSV Duisburg . He signed a three-year contract until 2014. Here he was initially a substitute goalkeeper behind Florian Fromlowitz and had to wait until November 18, 2011 (14th matchday) until he was preferred to Fromlowitz for the first time in the home game against Eintracht Braunschweig .

After MSV Duisburg's forced relegation, Wiedwald moved to Eintracht Frankfurt as a substitute goalkeeper behind Kevin Trapp for the 2013/14 season . He signed a contract until June 30, 2015. He made his competitive debut for Eintracht Frankfurt on December 12, 2013 in the Europa League against APOEL Nicosia ; he made his first appearance in the Bundesliga on February 2, 2014, when he came on for the injured Kevin Trapp in the game against Bayern Munich .

On the 5th matchday of the 2014/15 season Trapp suffered a severe syndesmosis against 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Wiedwald was substituted on in the final phase. On the 6th matchday, Wiedwald was in the Frankfurt goal for the first time in the Bundesliga in the 2-1 away win at Hamburger SV , after Eintracht officials trusted him as Trapp's representative despite the short-term commitment of the more experienced goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand was.

Return to Werder Bremen

For the 2015/16 season Wiedwald returned to Werder Bremen , where he received a contract until June 30, 2017 and the shirt number 42. In Bremen, Wiedwald fought a duel with Jaroslav Drobný for the position of the goalkeeper. After playing more than 20 Bundesliga games in the 2016/17 season , his contract term was extended by another year.

Leeds United

Nevertheless, he left Bremen at the end of the season and joined the English second division club Leeds United .

Return to Frankfurt and Duisburg

Wiedwald returned to Eintracht Frankfurt for the 2018/19 season. Mid-June 2018 he signed with the Cup Winners' Cup the previous season a contract until 2021.
