Participating clubs in the 2015/16 Bundesliga

The 2015/16 Bundesliga was the 53rd season of the top German division in men's football . It opened on August 14, 2015 with the match between defending champions FC Bayern Munich and Hamburger SV (5-0) and ended on May 23, 2016 after the last relegation match . From December 21, 2015 to January 21, 2016, it was interrupted by the winter break. The relegation games between Eintracht Frankfurt and 1. FC Nürnberg , third place in the 2nd Bundesliga 2015/16 , took place on May 19 (first leg) and on May 23, 2016 (second leg).

Hannover 96 and VfB Stuttgart had to relegate . While Hannover 96 had been relegated since the 31st match day, the descent of VfB Stuttgart (after 39 years of uninterrupted membership in the Bundesliga) was only sealed on the last match day with a 1: 3 bankruptcy at VfL Wolfsburg. As a participant in the relegation games to stay in the Bundesliga, Eintracht Frankfurt took on and secured the league stay against 1. FC Nürnberg . For the first time in 7 years, both climbers were able to hold onto the class. Since the 33rd match day, FC Bayern Munich was the champions.
