FC Bayern Munich was the first in the 1993/94 season in the German Bundesliga and thus German men's championship . The season started on August 7, 1993 and ended on May 7, 1994.

Season overview

Bayern Munich parted ways with coach Erich Ribbeck during the winter break (the club was in second place) ; Franz Beckenbauer became the new trainer . He lost his debut 3-1 against VfB Stuttgart. On matchday 31, 1. FC Kaiserslautern won their home game against leaders Bayern Munich 4-0 and reduced the gap to two points. On April 23, 1994, the 32nd matchday, there was a match between Bayern Munich and 1. FC Nürnberg, which became known through the so-called " Phantom goal ". Referee Hans-Joachim Osmers gave Bayern a goal at a signal from his linesman, although Thomas Helmer had shot next to the goal. The game ended 2-1 for Bayern, but was canceled by the DFB and rescheduled. On the 33rd matchday, 1. FC Kaiserslautern made another point on Bayern by defeating Borussia Dortmund, as they only played a draw at Karlsruher SC. The game Bayern Munich against 1. FC Nürnberg was repeated on May 3, 1994. Bayern won 5-0. Thus, FC Bayern went into the final matchday with one point, won 2-0 against Schalke 04 and with this one point ahead of 1. FC Kaiserslautern became German champions for the 13th time.

In the relegation battle, the promoted SC Freiburg was already facing relegation. However, he won his last three games and stayed in the Bundesliga, while 1. FC Nürnberg had to be relegated due to the worse goal difference.

The first and so far only leader with a negative goal difference was MSV Duisburg with -1 goals on matchday 22.
