The Württemberg Football Association (WFV) is one of 21 regional associations of the German Football Association and is based in Stuttgart . It was created on July 8, 1951 through a merger of the regional soccer associations in North and South Württemberg / Hohenzollern and is the umbrella organization of the 1,762 soccer clubs in Württemberg with 538,976 members and 12,456 teams. In addition to the Württemberg associations, the associations of the Bavarian districts of Lindau and Neu-Ulm as well as neighboring Bavarian-Swabian towns also belong to the WFV. Likewise, three associations from the Bavarian district of Würzburg from the northernmost district of Hohenlohe are members of the WFV.
Together with the Baden , Bavarian , Hessian and South Baden football associations, the WFV forms the Southern German Football Association .
Herbert Rösch was at the head of the association from 2003 to 2015 , and Matthias Schöck as president since 2015 .
Leagues and Competitions
Until the merger of the two regional sub-associations in 1951, the state league Württemberg and amateur league Südwürttemberg were played. The Württemberg champions qualified for the Oberliga Süd , the Hohenzollern champions for the Oberliga Südwest Gruppe Süd, which was played in the French occupation zone .
In 1950, the common 1st Amateur League Württemberg was established as the substructure of the Oberliga Süd, and the best four clubs from the Hohenzollern League were incorporated into the Württemberg League. The league lasted in this form until 1960 .
In order to get a second place in the promotion round to the 2nd Oberliga Süd , the association divided the 1st amateur league analogously to Bavaria and Baden into two seasons from the 1960/61 season - the 1st amateur league North Württemberg (NW) and the Black Forest-Bodensee League (SB). The Black Forest-Bodensee League was temporarily also home to some clubs of the Südbadischer Verband , whose most prominent representative was FC 08 Villingen .
In 1978 , the Baden-Württemberg Oberliga was introduced as the successor to the 1st amateur league together with the Baden and South Baden associations . Since then, the Württemberg Association League has been the top division under the administration of the WFV. Among them is the Landesliga Württemberg , which is divided into four seasons. The next lower division are the sixteen district leagues. Below the district league, the clubs play in the district leagues A, B and C.
The WFV also organizes a cup competition. The winner of the Württemberg Association Cup (WFV Cup) is qualified as a WFV participant for the first main round of the DFB Cup .
Württemberg master
The WFV has been awarding the title of Württemberg master since it was founded . Even before that, the title was awarded to the champion of the Landesliga Württemberg as the second highest division under the Oberliga Süd since the start of gaming operations from 1945 to 1950 . With the introduction of the 1st Amateur League Württemberg as the highest division under the direction of the WFV in the summer of 1950, the league leader in this division received the title. After the league was split into two seasons, the season winner of the 1st Amateur League North Württemberg played against the season winner of the 1st Amateur League Black Forest-Lake Constance League for the award. With the introduction of the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg in 1978 , the award changed again, since then the best Württemberg team in the league has been honored at the end of the season.
