The Berlin Football Association ( BFV for short ) is the umbrella organization for all football clubs in Berlin . It is one of the 21 regional associations of the German Football Association (DFB) and a member of the Northeast German Football Association (NOFV). In addition, the Berlin Cricket Committee ( BCK for short ) as part of the BFV is the umbrella organization of all Berlin cricket clubs and one of the seven regional associations of the German Cricket Federation .
history
The BFV is the successor to the Association of German Ball Game Clubs (VDB) founded on September 11, 1897 , which was renamed the Association of Berlin Ball Game Clubs (VBB) in 1902 . In 1911 the VBB merged with two other associations based in Berlin to form the Association of Brandenburg Ball Game Clubs (also VBB).
After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, the DFB and all regional football associations were dissolved and replaced by the Football and Football District Office. Instead of the VBB, the Gau Berlin-Brandenburg stepped with the Gauliga Berlin-Brandenburg as the top division. Only after the end of the Second World War was the association re-established in 1949. Since the Brandenburg area around Berlin was already part of the GDR , the association was now again called the Association of Berlin Ball Game Clubs . A year later, the East Berlin teams had to join the German Football Association (GDR Football Association) and thus only the West Berlin teams were subordinate to the new VBB .
After German reunification in 1991, the western and eastern teams were reunited in league games and combined under the new Berlin Football Association .
