The German Cricket Federation (DCB) is an umbrella organization of German cricket clubs based in Buxtehude . It was founded in Hanau at the end of 1988 and was based in Passau from 2007 to 2019 .

history

Before that there was already the first association, the German Football and Cricket Association (DFCB), founded in Berlin in 1891 , which was followed by the first German Cricket Association , which was also founded in Berlin in 1912 , but ceased its activities during the First World War. While only Berlin clubs took part in the championships at the DFCB, the second association already had clubs from Berlin, Nuremberg, Fürth, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Mannheim and Hamburg. There were only a few opportunities to play games after the Second World War . Cricket still had its place, especially in the British zone of occupation .

It was not until the 1980s that enough clubs were formed to make a new attempt. The association is a member of the European Cricket Council (ECC), the successor organization to the European Cricket Federation .

In 1991 the DCB was accepted as an affiliate member in the International Cricket Council . The most important event in the association's history to date was certainly the admission as an Associate Member in 1999, the second-highest membership category, through which the German association was formally placed on the same level as the Scottish or Dutch cricket associations, countries with a long cricket tradition.

The refugee crisis in Germany in 2015/2016 brought numerous new players to the clubs. In addition to the DCB, there has also been the German Cricket Union (DCU) based in Engelskirchen since 2015 .

At the end of 2016, German Cricket TV (GCTV; Qwickets GmbH, Munich) was created with the transmission rights for all DCB tournaments over the next few years.

Regional and state associations

There are six regional and state associations below the DCB:

  • North German Cricket Association eV (NDCV), Buxtehude (for Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein)
  • Ostdeutscher Cricket Verband eV (ODCV), Berlin (for Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia)
  • West German Cricket Association eV (WDCV), Bonn (for North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate)
  • Baden-Württembergischer Cricket Verband eV (BWCV), Ketsch (for Baden-Württemberg, in the Bundesliga and club cup also Saarland)
  • Bayerischer Cricket Verband eV (BCV), Munich
  • Hessischer Cricket Verband eV (HCV), Wiesbaden

Competitions

Competitions under the umbrella of the DCB are:

  • DCB Super Series (DSS; six DCB selection teams: Northern Seals, Eastern Bears, Western Eagles, BW Sharks, Bavarian Lions, Hessen Thunders )
  • German cricket championship (DCM, one-day cricket ; divisions: six-tier Bundesliga, six-tier regional league, possibly association league)
  • DCB Club Cup (DCB Cup, Twenty20 ; six-part); the club cup winner is qualified to participate in the European Cricket League (ECL) in the following year
  • DCB Women's Super Series (DSSD; two DCB selection teams: Northern Thunderbirds, Southern Stormers )
  • German women's cricket championship (DCM women, Twenty20 ; three- or four-tier Bundesliga)

The DCB is responsible for the management of national games. National games are the Super Series and the finals of the DCM Bundesliga, the DCB Cup and the DCM Women. All other championship games are organized by the respective regional and state associations.

The finals of the German Cricket Championship and the Club Cup each consist of five games. First, in two quarter-finals, separated into north and south, the league leaders of those associations compete against each other that did not enter the final in the previous year. The winners will play in two semi-finals against the leaders of the associations from which the finalists of the previous year come (semi-finals north and south). The winners of this ultimately play the final.
