The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the world cricket federation (see cricket ) . Since August 2005 it has been based in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates . Until then it was based at Lord's Cricket Ground in London, which is owned by the Marylebone Cricket Club .

history

On June 15, 1909, the ICC was founded in London as the Imperial Cricket Conference by representatives of the three cricket nations England , Australia and South Africa . Membership in this association was limited to Commonwealth countries .

In 1926, India , New Zealand and the West Indies were added, automatically making these countries Test Cricket Nations .

A few years after the founding of the state in 1947 also got Pakistan to Test status in 1953 awarded. After leaving the Commonwealth, South Africa automatically lost its membership in 1961.

In 1965 this condition was abolished and the ICC was renamed the International Cricket Conference at the same time . This led to a rapid increase in membership, but the new member associations were accepted under the status of associate members . These have a single right to vote, the full members a double vote . The founding members reserved a right of veto, which no longer exists today. In 1981, Sri Lanka became the seventh country to be promoted to Test Cricket Nation status.

A reorganization in 1989 was accompanied by a renewed name change to today's International Cricket Council . After the end of apartheid , South Africa was resumed in 1991, followed by Zimbabwe in 1992, Bangladesh in 2000 and Ireland and Afghanistan in 2017. As a result, there are now (2017) twelve test nations .

The International Women's Cricket Council (IWCC), founded in 1958, merged with the ICC in 2005, so that the ICC is now also responsible for women's cricket .
