History of the football department

The historical club life in Mörfelden shows three stages of development, according to the importance, namely the time from the founding of the club in 1909 to 1918, from 1919 to 1944 and then to the present day.

The beginnings of football in Mörfelden began in the Mörfeld pub "Wernertanne". In 1909, after a gymnastics festival on TV "Frankonia", during which football was also advertised through a game, some Mörfelder in the inn "Zur frisch Quelle" in Bahnhofstrasse. 4, to the sports club "Germania" in 1909. It was founded on September 7, 1909 by 18 members. Subsequently, the games were initially played on a field "An den Nussbäume" provided by member Ludwig Dickhaut. From 1911/12 the official game operation in the B-class was taken up and through the championship in 1917 one rose to the A-class. From 1920, the sports facility of the club, which now has 200 members, was expanded with a running track and a changing room. In 1927 they won the district cup and on July 30, 1933, the new sports field "Am Grünen Haag" was inaugurated. With its 25th anniversary in 1934, they were promoted to the district league . After a year, however, the descent followed again.

On August 18, 1937, the end of the sports club "Germania 1909" came during the Nazi era . Due to an official order in 1941, the department had to merge with the GFL (Association for Physical Exercise). With the beginning of the Second World War , numerous drafts followed and in 1944 the activities came to an end. When the war ended on May 8, 1945, the town hall initiated the impetus to revive sport in Mörfelden. On July 15, 1945, a united soccer team “Am Grünen Haag” played against Nauheim and won 1-0. The community entrusted the citizens Ludwig Reviol, Wilhelm Völker, Arthur Wolf, Ludwig Schulmeyer, Heinich Feutner and Karl Schmidt, who was replaced a few weeks later by Heinrich Schluckebier, to bring football back to the city. These men, chaired by Ludwig Schulmeyer, carried out the necessary preparatory work that led to the unification of all previous clubs under the name "Sport and Culture Association 1879 eV Mörfelden". The day of the new formation of football in Mörfelden was November 16, 1945 in the inn "Zur Ludwigshalle".

In 1946 the SKV Mörfelden was assigned to the main group and rose as a champion in the Landesliga Hessen , group west. Clubs like SV Darmstadt 98 , VfR Bürstadt and SV Wiesbaden were part of the group in 1947. In 1948 and 1949, they were relegated to the A-class. In 1950, SKV Mörfelden achieved immediate promotion to the district class. In 1953 the Waldstadion was inaugurated. In the 1959 season they went back to the A-Class West of the Darmstadt district. In the 1964-65 season, under coach Willy Kronenberger, in front of 2500 spectators, with a 2-0 win against TSV Goddelau, promotion to the Darmstadt district league was achieved. In 1968/69 the relegation to the A-class followed again. After four years you reached in the 1974-75 season promotion to the district league. For the 75th anniversary, there was a friendly match against the Eintracht Frankfurt professionals in the Waldstadion , which went 2: 3 to the Eintracht professionals.

Under Horst Schmittner, the championship in the Darmstadt district league and promotion to the southern regional league followed in 1984-85. In 1986, the SKV, under the leadership of Manfred Neidig, was the district and Hessen Cup winner . SKV Mörfelden won the final in the Hessen Cup with 2-1 against FSV Frankfurt .

Borussia Neunkirchen won the DFB Cup in 1986 . The game went 1: 3 to Neunkirchen. After five years in the Landesliga Süd, relegation followed in 1991. Under Joachim Euler, he was promoted to the Landesliga Süd in the 1995/96 season. In 1996/97 it came down and the club got into financial difficulties. Another decline followed a year later. It was not until 1999 that the sporting downward trend could be stopped by remaining in the district league. In 2002 there was another descent into the A-Class Groß-Gerau. It was not until the anniversary year 2008-09 that the promotion to the Darmstadt district league could be achieved under the direction of player-coach Oliver Süss. Thus, the actual promotion from the previous year, which was pronounced due to an association error before the last game against SKV Mörfelden, could be made up. Under the direction of coach Oliver Süss you could reach the championship in the 2010/11 season and rose to the Darmstadt group league. The football department currently has around 650 active and passive members.
