history

On May 17, 1985, a small ad placed by Bob Sleigh appeared in the West Berlin city magazine tip , looking for cricketers to play friendly games in the park. Shortly afterwards, a meeting was arranged in a Kreuzberg pub, to which Sleigh appeared in traditional white cricket clothing in order to be recognizable. The three other founding members were Tim Sandner, Peter Edge and Trevor Wilson, of whom only Tim Sandner still plays. First of all, the players in Volkspark Rehberge picked up clubs and balls and called themselves The Refugees .

Cricket ball

At first it was difficult to play on a proper cricket pitch in Berlin as all five pitches were administered by the British Army. Nevertheless, the first recorded game took place on August 2, 1986 against a united team consisting of members of the British regiment of the 14th / 20th Hussars and the British military police . In 1988 the club was finally taken up by the British military administration and played in the 2nd division.

When the British Army was withdrawn from Berlin in 1994, it became necessary to reorganize the entire sport of cricket. The refugees joined the Sport and Social Club of Berlin and Brandenburg (DSSC) and played under its aegis until 1996.

After differences with the management of the DSSC, the BCC was founded on December 15, 1996 as an independent association and was registered in the Charlottenburg district court on January 7, 1997. From then on he took part in the game operations of the BCK and DCB. Tim Sandner was elected as the first club president.

First of all, the BCC formed the whipping boy for opposing teams. This only improved with the addition of new players in 2002 and 2003. Under the leadership of captain Bob Goldmann (Netherlands 1999-2003) and Chris Milne (Scotland 2004-2005) the BCC improved noticeably and expanded its international contacts .

In 2003 and 2004 an excursion to the Bund Deutscher Cricket Vereine (BDCV) appeared appropriate to further improve the playing skills and the BCC took part in the games of the German Cricket League (DCL) organized by the BDCV. In this league the club celebrated its first successes and moved into the semi-finals in both years.

After this beneficial guest performance in the DCL, the BCC returned completely to the DCB's game operations in 2005. In an exciting season, the club finally qualified for the final of the Bundesliga East. There the BCC was subject to the Pakistan Cricket Club Berlin (PCCB), but after a successful appeal against the rating, the championship was finally awarded to the BCC.

The BCC became champions of the Bundesliga East in 2005. In May 2006 the BCC competed against the winners of the other national leagues of 2005 and fought for the German championship. He was defeated by Hansa CC Hamburg and then in the quarter-finals against SV Wiesbaden 1899 eV In 2006 and 2007, the BCC reached the final of the Berlin league again; In 2008 the team fell short of their expectations and just reached the semifinals.
