The tip is a Berlin city magazine that appears every 14 days . It was founded in 1972 by Klaus Stemmler . The magazine was published by Tip Verlag GmbH & Co. KG, which belonged to Raufeld Verlag from 2013 . Most of it is sold at kiosks and through self-distribution in bookshops, cinemas and pubs and is also available nationwide. Since January 1st, 2016 tip has been published together with Zitty at GCM Go City Media with a joint editorial team. The Raufeld Verlag still holds a minority share.
profile
In addition to an extensive calendar of events for cinema, concerts, parties, theater, etc. tip Berlin offers the latest trends from the city, reports, interviews and reviews on film, art, music, theater, literature and city life. The TV-tip supplement , now part of the magazine as tip television , was produced in-house until the end of 2006 and is now supplied by the Nuremberg service company TVI, which u. a. also the contents of the TV magazine rtv originate.
From 1985 film yearbooks were published, up to issue 3 in cooperation with the Eichborn publishing house. With the 12th volume, the book series was then discontinued in 1996.
Furthermore, special issues such as the gastro guide tip menu and Berlin with children with numerous tips for families in Berlin appear under the label tip Edition . The branch Munich with children has also been relocated since 2013 . In addition to these publications, which appear in book form, the editorial team produces booklets, for example, on garden restaurants, breakfast cafés or children's addresses and supplements on topics such as fitness, living, gastronomy and culture. The Tip Campus also appears twice a year, 40,000 copies of which are distributed free of charge to all Berlin universities .
In May 2014 the magazine started with an edition of limited screen prints from Berlin artists. It was opened by Kat Menschik with the work Berlin Wild Life . The graphic shows a typical Berlin backyard populated by wild animals . This was followed in early 2015 by a graphic by the draftsman ATAK .
Until summer 2020, the competing product was the city magazine zitty , which was also sold to Raufeld Verlag GmbH in April 2014. Both papers have suffered a massive decline in circulation in recent years: while the tip was still 75,481 in the 4th quarter of 1998 and 70,323 in the 4th quarter of 2000, it was only 31,112 in the 2nd quarter of 2014 and in the 3rd Quarter of 2018 only 18,872 copies. At zitty there were 65,891 copies in the 4th quarter of 2000, but 26,076 in the 2nd quarter of 2014 and 13,188 in the 3rd quarter of 2018.
From 1996 Tip Verlag GmbH & Co. KG belonged to Berliner Verlag , which in turn sold it to Raufeld Verlag in 2013.
Election of the "100 most embarrassing Berliners"
The city magazine has been compiling a "list of the 100 most embarrassing Berliners" since 1999. Originally the order and winners were determined by a jury, today readers of the tip website can also vote by voting. The tip provides the hundred Berliners to choose from with a sarcastic or hateful short text. The announcement of the list regularly ensures at least regional press coverage. So far, the following have been chosen at number 1 on the list:

criticism
Since 2007 the event data, which represent a main focus of the paper, have been processed by Cine Marketing GmbH. This met with criticism from various media, as the organizers now have to enter their dates for a fee and smaller providers might be excluded.
In the meantime, Cine Marketing GmbH offers the possibility of entering the data yourself and publishing it in this way. The publication fee does not apply in this way, but there is a one-time "setup fee" of currently 30 euros. Cine Marketing supplies ten Berlin media outlets with this event data , including tip , zitty , [030] and Potsdamer Latest News .
