Sandra Scheeres (born February 15, 1970 in Düsseldorf ) is a German politician ( SPD ). She was a member of the House of Representatives from 2006 to 2016 and was Senator for Education, Youth and Science of the State of Berlin from December 1, 2011 to December 2016 . She has been Senator for Education, Youth and Family since December 2016 , as the area of ​​science policy, which was previously anchored in her administration, was integrated into the Berlin Senate Chancellery .

Sandra Scheeres trained as an educator and then studied pedagogy at the University of Düsseldorf , graduating in 1999. After working for four years in a federal model project for socially disadvantaged areas, she has been a research assistant at the working group for child and youth welfare since 2003 . Scheeres has been the patron of the Berlin branch of the Fahrradhelden association , a children's aid project that operates across Germany, since 2014 .

Sandra Scheeres is married and has two children.

Scheeres has been a member of the SPD since 1993. From 1999 to 2000 she was a member of the city council of Düsseldorf. In the elections for the Berlin House of Representatives in September 2006 and September 2011 , she won a direct mandate in the constituency of Pankow 5 . She was a member of the House of Representatives until October 2016 and was the educational policy spokesperson for her group.

On November 30, 2011 Scheeres was appointed Senator for Education, Youth and Science in the Wowereit IV Senate and sworn in on December 1, 2011.
