Carsten Brosda (born October 3, 1974 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German politician ( SPD ). Since February 2017 he has been a Senator of the Hamburg Authority for Culture and Media , initially in Senate Scholz II and since March 2018 in Senates Tschentscher I and Tschentscher II .

Life

education

As an exchange student, Brosda spent a year in Texas , USA , where he came into contact with journalism in a high school course . He studied journalism and political science at the University of Dortmund and completed an internship at the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung in Essen . He also completed an internship in the press office of the SPD presidium in Berlin. This was followed by the offer of a part-time position from the SPD, which allowed him to do his doctorate on the side. In 2007 he received his doctorate with a thesis on "Discursive Journalism" at the cultural studies faculty of the University of Dortmund. For several years he worked as a lecturer at various German universities.

Professional development

From 2000 to 2005 he worked in various positions as press officer , editor , speechwriter and consultant for fundamental issues at the SPD party executive in Berlin. During Gesine Schwan's candidacy for the office of Federal President in 2004 , he was her press spokesman. In the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs , he led from 2005 to 2009 the presentation speeches, texts and analysis and was from 2008 also deputy head of the management and planning staff . From 2007 to 2009 he worked under the then Federal Minister for Labor and Social Affairs Olaf Scholz .

From 2010 to 2011 he was head of the communication department of the SPD party executive until June 2011, when the First Mayor of Hamburg, Olaf Scholz, appointed him head of his newly created media office in the Hamburg Senate Chancellery. From 2013 Brosda was also the media representative of the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

On March 1, 2016, Carsten Brosda was appointed to the State Council of the Senate Chancellery for the areas of media and digitization and to the State Council of the cultural authority in Senate Scholz II . He succeeded Horst-Michael Pelikahn in the cultural authority . On February 1, 2017, Brosda succeeded Barbara Kisseler, who died in October 2016, as Senator for Culture in the Scholz II Senate. Since March 28, 2018, he has also held this position in the subsequent Tschentscher I Senate. Brosda has played a leading role in the Hamburg Media Dialogue for the Hanseatic city since 2013 and, as Senator for Culture and Media, has been the official representative of the Hanseatic city in the committees of the City of Hamburg responsible for public broadcasting and for intermediary platforms, in particular for the coordination of the State Media Treaty among the federal states, which is intended to permanently replace the interstate broadcasting agreement that has existed since 1987 .

Brosda ran for the 2020 state election on the SPD state list and was elected to the state.

Brosda is married and has two children.
