Stefanie Hubig (born December 15, 1968 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German lawyer and politician ( SPD ). Since May 18, 2016 she has been Minister for Education of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in the Dreyer II cabinet .

Career

After graduating from high school in 1988, Stefanie Hubig studied law at the University of Regensburg and passed the first state examination in 1993 , followed by the second state examination in 1995 . 2003 doctorate them there for Dr. jur .

From 1996 to 2000 she worked as a judge at the Ingolstadt Regional Court and as a public prosecutor at the Ingolstadt public prosecutor's office. She then moved to the Federal Ministry of Justice as a consultant , where she rose to head of department in 2005. From 2008 to 2013, Hubig worked in the highest state authorities of the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate , initially as a consultant responsible for judicial matters and constitutional law in the state chancellery , from 2009 as head of the criminal law department in the Ministry of Justice (from 2011: Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection) .

After the federal election in 2013 , Hubig was appointed State Secretary and Head of Office in the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection on January 8, 2014 by Federal Minister Heiko Maas (SPD) . She assumed responsibility for the areas of justice, legal policy and administration. During her tenure, she was involved, among other things, with the tightening of sex criminal law.

In the course of the formation of the government after the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate on March 13, 2016 , the previous Ministry for Education, Science, Further Education and Culture was divided into the two departments Ministry for Education and Ministry for Science, Further Education and Culture . On May 18, 2016, Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) appointed Stefanie Hubig as Minister for Education of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. On the same day she was appointed deputy member of the Federal Council .

Hubig is Roman Catholic and married.
