Michael Piazolo (born October 22, 1959 in Stuttgart ) is a German politician ( Free Voters Bavaria ), lawyer and political scientist . In 2018 he became Bavarian State Minister for Education and Culture in the Söder II cabinet .

Life

Piazolo's father was head of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture . Piazolo attended the Karls-Gymnasium Stuttgart from 1969 to 1979 and studied law at the LMU Munich until 1981 . In 1981 and 1982 he was enrolled in law and political science at the University of Lausanne . From 1983 to 1985 he continued his studies at the LMU. From 1985 to 1988 he was a trainee lawyer at the Fürstenfeldbruck District Court, the Speyer University and the German Consulate General in New York.

In 1989, Piazolo worked as a consultant in the department for fundamental questions and legal matters of the central administration of the Munich Goethe Institute . In 1990 he spent the summer semester at the University of Virginia . He received his doctorate in 1992 from the law faculty of the University of Regensburg . From 1991 to 2006, Piazolo was a lecturer at the Academy for Political Education in Tutzing , where he wrote a large number of books and brochures on constitutional, state and European law, including for the Bavarian State Center for Political Education . Since 1994 he has been a lecturer at the Munich School of Politics ; In 1994/95 he was Managing Director of the Independent Commission for the Review of Conflicts of Interest in Office and Mandate. From 1996 to 2000, Piazolo was the coordinator of the EU project Eurofamilia .

In 2003 he completed his habilitation at the University of Augsburg . From 2003 to 2006 he was a private lecturer at the University of Augsburg. From 2006 to 2008 he was a professor at the University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Justice in Berlin . From 2008 to 2013 he was Professor of European Studies at the University of Munich .

Piazolo is a Roman Catholic denomination .

politics

Piazolo has been a member of the Free Voters Bavaria since 2001 . In 2005 he became city chairman of Munich and in 2006 deputy state chairman. From 2010 to 2019 he was Secretary General . In 2008, Piazolo was elected to the Munich city council, in September to the Bavarian state parliament , after which he resigned from the city council. He was university policy spokesman for the parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament, spokesman for federal and European affairs and cultural policy spokesman. From 2013 to 2018 he was chairman of the committee for higher education, research and culture. He was the initiator of the successful referendum against tuition fees in Bavaria in 2013. In the Söder II cabinet , Piazolo has been Minister of State for Education and Culture since 2018.
