August Rucker

August Rucker (born February 14, 1900 in Munich ; † May 17, 1978 in Monte-Carlo ) was a German architect , university professor and politician .

Life and work

Rucker was born the son of a businessman. After graduating from high school, he began studying civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich , which he completed in 1923 with an examination as a graduate engineer. He then worked at Rhein-Main-Donau AG. From 1926 to 1937 he studied architecture and urban planning in Paris . He then worked as a consulting engineer in Cádiz , Madrid and Munich . Rucker worked as a lecturer at the TH Munich since 1945 and took over the chair for urban engineering and urban planning there in 1947. From 1951 to 1954 he was rector of the university.

From 1958 to 1963 Rucker was a member of the board of trustees of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation .

Public offices

Without belonging to a party, Rucker served from December 14, 1954 to October 16, 1957 as Minister of State for Education and Culture in the government of the Free State of Bavaria led by Prime Minister Wilhelm Hoegner .
