The Hoegner II cabinet formed the state government of the Free State of Bavaria from December 14, 1954 to October 8, 1957 (executive until October 16, 1957) . Although in the election for the 3rd Bavarian State Parliament on November 28, 1954, the CSU (83 seats) was the strongest force in the state parliament by far ahead of the SPD (61 seats), Wilhelm Hoegner succeeded in forming an SPD-led coalition of four with the rest of the party Landtag represented parties Bavaria Party (BP), All-German Bloc / Federation of Expellees and Disenfranchised (GB / BHE) and FDP . The coalition of four thus had 121 of the 204 seats in the state parliament. After the federal election on September 15, 1957 , the CSU was able to persuade the GB / BHE and then the Bavarian party to leave the coalition. Prime Minister Hoegner resigned from his office on October 8, 1957, and his cabinet was succeeded by the Seidel I cabinet on October 16, 1957 .

What was remarkable about the Hoegner II cabinet was that so far in the post-war history of Bavaria it was the only elected government led by the SPD or a party other than the CSU.
