The Goppel I cabinet formed the state government of the Free State of Bavaria from December 11, 1962 to December 5, 1966 . In the election for the fifth Bavarian state parliament on November 25, 1962, the CSU again achieved an absolute majority of 108 of the total of 204 seats in the state parliament for the first time since 1946. Alfons Goppel could have formed a sole CSU government, but decided in favor of a coalition with the Bavarian Party (BP) . The only government member of the Bavarian Party, which was represented by eight members in the state parliament, was Robert Wehgartner as Secretary of State . On July 20, 1966, he joined the CSU, effectively ending the coalition. The government of Prime Minister Goppel was confirmed in the state elections in 1966 , so that it was followed by the Goppel II cabinet , now without the participation of the Bavarian party.
