The Söder I cabinet formed the state government of the Free State of Bavaria from March 21 to November 12, 2018 . It was led by Markus Söder ( CSU ), who was elected Prime Minister by the state parliament on March 16, 2018 with 99 votes . The number of votes corresponds to the seats of the CSU in the state parliament minus two excused MPs. In the state elections on September 15, 2013, the CSU obtained an absolute majority of the state parliament seats, with the FDP leaving the state parliament and thus from the government. The CSU was able to form a sole government under Horst Seehofer .
A cabinet reshuffle became necessary because Seehofer resigned from his office on March 13, 2018 and joined the Merkel IV cabinet as Federal Minister of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs . Söder, Bavarian Minister of Finance and Home Affairs up to this point , succeeded Seehofer in the post of Prime Minister.
The members of the state government were sworn in on March 21. As with the previous cabinets, the constitutional maximum of 18 members introduced in 1998 has been fully exhausted. The Söder I cabinet was replaced by the Söder II cabinet on November 6, 2018 .
