Melanie Huml (* 9. September 1975 as Melanie Beck in Bamberg ) is a German physician and politician . As a member of the CSU , she has been a member of the Bavarian State Parliament since October 2003 . From October 2007 she was a State Secretary of the Bavarian State Government , initially in the Beckstein cabinet in the State Ministry for Labor and Social Affairs, Family and Women and from 2008 to 2013 in the Seehofer I cabinet in the State Ministry for Environment and Health . Huml has been Minister of State for Health and Care since October 2013 , initially in the Seehofer II cabinet , in the Söder I cabinet from March to November 2018 and since then in the Söder II cabinet . She has been deputy CSU party chairman since 2017.

education and profession

Huml was born the daughter of the director of studies Michael Beck and the housewife Marianne Beck. After attending elementary school in Hallstadt , she switched to the Kaiser-Heinrich-Gymnasium Bamberg , which she graduated from high school in 1995. She then started studying human medicine at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg . During her internship, she worked at the Bamberg Clinic and the Grabs Cantonal Hospital in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen . After her third state examination in 2003, she returned to the Bamberg Clinic as an intern . She has been a licensed doctor since October 1st, 2004.

Huml began her political career in 1993 when she joined the Junge Union (JU) in the Bamberg-Land district. There she took over the district chairmanship in 2001 and became deputy district chairwoman of the Junge Union Oberfranken. From 2003 to 2011 she was a member of the regional committee of the Junge Union Bayern. She joined the CSU in 2001 and has been a member of the district executive committee in Upper Franconia since 2003. She has been an elected member of the party executive committee since 2005, initially as an assessor and since 2017 as deputy party chairman; Huml has been appointed to the CSU Presidium since 2011.

She took on her first political mandate in the district council of the Bamberg district , in which she moved as the youngest member after the local elections in March 2002. She belonged to him until 2005. In the state elections on September 21, 2003, she won a seat in second place on the CSU's list for the constituency of Upper Franconia and entered the Bavarian state parliament for the first time. Until her appointment to the Bavarian State Government, she was a member of the Committee for Social, Health and Family Policy and was also a member of the Enquète Commission Young Being in Bavaria - Future Perspectives for Coming Generations .

In October 2007, Prime Minister Günther Beckstein appointed her to his cabinet as State Secretary in the State Ministry for Labor and Social Affairs, Family and Women . From May 2008 to April 2014 she was also a member of the Bamberg City Council. Since the state elections in 2008 , she has represented the Bamberg-Stadt constituency . In October 2008, the newly elected Prime Minister Horst Seehofer appointed her to his cabinet as State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry for Environment and Health . In October 2013 she took over the management of the Seehofer II cabinet as Minister of State in the newly created Bavarian State Ministry for Health and Care . In March 2018 ( Söder I cabinet ) and November 2018 ( Söder II cabinet ), Huml was appointed to the cabinet by Prime Minister Markus Söder as Bavarian State Minister for Health and Care. Huml is one of the longest serving members of the Bavarian State Government.

In August 2020, Huml came under fire in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic , as almost 44,000 patients of 85,000 corona tests had not been informed of the result - including 900 who tested positive.

family

Huml has been married to the lawyer Markus Huml since May 2005 and is the mother of two sons (* 2012, * 2015). She is of the Roman Catholic denomination.
