Karl Freller (born March 2, 1956 in Schwabach ) is a German politician ( CSU ). He has been a member of the Bavarian State Parliament since 1982 and its 1st Vice-President since November 5, 2018.

Life

Freller attended the business school and the Adam-Kraft-Gymnasium . In 1982, at the age of 26, he was elected from last place on the list in the Bavarian state parliament and was the youngest member in the history of the parliament until the state elections in 2018. Before that, Freller was a religious teacher in the church service at various types of schools in Nuremberg and Schwabach, most recently at the state secondary school in Schwabach. From 1975 to 1977 he was an editor at the Schwabacher Tagblatt . From 1986 to 1994 he was youth policy spokesman and from 1994 to 1998 educational policy spokesman for the CSU parliamentary group.

From October 1998 to October 2007 Karl Freller was State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture . In addition to the school sector, his responsibilities included sport, youth work, political education (including memorials) and contact with the churches. Freller represented the Free State of Bavaria in the German Sports Ministers 'Conference and in the German Youth Ministers' Conference. From 2000 to 2007 he was chairman of the Bavarian Education Pact Foundation .

Karl Freller has been deputy chairman of the parliamentary group since October 17, 2007, and since 2013 also treasurer of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament. Since November 5, 2018, Karl Freller has been one of five Vice Presidents of Bayer. Landtag. He is a member of the State Budget and Financial Committee. He represents the district of Nuremberg-Süd ( Middle Franconia ) in the state parliament.

In addition, Freller has been director of the Bavarian Memorials Foundation since December 2007 and is therefore also responsible for the Dachau and Flossenbürg concentration camp memorials . In 2014 he was awarded the Rabbi Spiro Prize . Until 2009 he was Vice President of the Bavarian Red Cross on an honorary basis . Furthermore, Freller is a member of the council of elders.

Freller has been leading the CSU district association in Schwabach since 1991 and is deputy district chairman of the CSU district association Nuremberg / Fürth / Schwabach.

He is married and has three children.
