Franz Meyer (politician, 1953)
Franz Meyer (born May 13, 1953 in Vilshofen ) is a German politician ( CSU ).
After graduating as a state-certified economist at the Agricultural School in Passau , Meyer had worked at the CSU office in Passau from 1974, from 1977 federal constituency manager of the CSU in Passau and has been the district chairman of the CSU Passau-Land since 1997. In addition, he has been deputy district chairman of the CSU Niederbayern since 2005 and a member of the CSU executive committee as secretary since 2003. From 2001 to 2003 he was a member of the party executive committee.
Before his career in state politics, Meyer was active at the municipal level: since 1978 as a district councilor in the Passau district , since 1996 as a city councilor for the city of Vilshofen and from 1990 to 1996 as the deputy district administrator for the Passau district.
Meyer was a member of the Bavarian state parliament from 1990 to 2008 and was chairman of the administrative reform working group of the CSU parliamentary group from 1998 to 2003. From 2003 to 2007 he was State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance .
In the local elections in 2008 , he stood as a candidate for the CSU district councilor for the Passau district and prevailed against five competitors with 66.69% of the vote. He has since district administrator of the district of Passau. In the 2014 local elections , he again won 71.23% of the vote against four competitors. Meyer did not run for the local elections in 2020 due to age.
Meyer was also President of the Music Association of Upper and Lower Bavaria .
honors and awards
In 2006 he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit for his services . In 2007 he received the Bavarian Constitutional Medal in gold. Pope Benedict XVI awarded him the New Year's Eve in October 2009 . In 2018 Meyer was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Vilshofen and the Golden Merit Medal of the State of Upper Austria .
