Decoration of Honor of the Province of Upper Austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Decoration of Honor of the Province of Upper Austria is a multi-level award that has been awarded by the Province of Upper Austria since 1982.

history

The Medal of Honor of the Province of Upper Austria is awarded to people who, through their work, have made special contributions to the reputation of the State of Upper Austria or to the well-being of its population or in other areas that are in the process of being implemented by the State (Act on the State of Honor Upper Austria, § 1). The badge of honor has seven levels, with the state's great gold and great decorations as neck decorations on a ribbon, while all other decorations are worn as chest decorations. All levels of the badge of honor can also be worn in the form of a small copy. Uniform wearers are allowed to wear medal clasps ( ribbon buckles ) with miniatures on them.

With the award of the honorary badge, the award passes into the property of the honored person. The badge of honor may only be worn by the person himself and may not be transferred to the possession of other persons during the lifetime of the recipient. People who wear the badge of honor or identify themselves as its bearer without the state government having awarded the badge of honor of the corresponding level, commit an administrative offense, which is punishable by a fine of up to 360 euros by the district administrative authority. The same range of penalties applies to persons who use the badge in a way that disparages its meaning.

The “Law on the Decoration of Honor of the Province of Upper Austria”, which came into force on December 16, 1982, replaced the law of January 10, 1963 on the Great Decoration of Honor of the Province of Upper Austria and the law of March 23, 1973 on the Decoration of Honor of the Province of Upper Austria. Holders of the Great Medal of Honor of the State of Upper Austria, which had been awarded up to then, can call themselves bearers of the Great Gold Medal of Honor of the State of Upper Austria. Holders of the previous Golden Decoration of Honor of the Province of Upper Austria can call themselves bearers of the Great Decoration of Honor of the Province of Upper Austria.

In November 2018, the Upper Austria's Cross of Merit for Art and Culture was created as the highest cultural award in the state. The first prize winner in February 2019 was Alois Brandstetter . Valie Export receives the award in September 2020 .
