Wireless Resonant Energy Link

Wireless Resonant Energy Link ( WREL ) is a method for wireless energy transmission over short distances. The connection works on the principle of a resonance transformer , but in contrast to conventional transformers, it has no core. The coupling of the two coils attached between the stationary and mobile device represents a wireless connection path. The associated poor coupling in the magnetic circuit results in a correspondingly low efficiency of the transmission path. As a rule, this is well below 25% and depends heavily on the distance to be bridged. The energy transfer can also take place reasonably efficiently only at a tuned resonance frequency .

Inter alia, such interfaces are being developed by Intel Corporation with the aim of supplying mobile devices such as notebooks with electrical energy wirelessly. Such a system was presented in August 2008 at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco .
