The Upper and Lower Bavarian Music Association (MON) is an association founded in 1953 by Heinz Kemenater and Ludwig Dennerlein to organize Upper and Lower Bavarian music bands . The association, originally founded as the Upper Bavarian Music Association , was renamed the Upper and Lower Bavaria Music Association on March 9, 1958 when Lower Bavaria joined .

There are currently 690 music associations, bands, schools, wind orchestras, youth bands, minstrels and fanfares and other music groups with over 24,700 active musicians in the administrative districts of Upper Bavaria and Lower Bavaria in MON (status 2018).

The MON is a member of the Bavarian Brass Music Association and also of the Bavarian Music Council .

District Associations

The Music Association of Upper and Lower Bavaria is divided into 13 district associations:

District music festivals and rating games take place regularly in each of the districts. The organizers are mostly brass bands or their friends' association , which are celebrating a founding anniversary this year.

Symphonic wind orchestra

MON has had its own symphonic wind orchestra since 2000, in which MON work for young musicians is carried out and an awareness of symphonic music in wind music is to be created. Alejandro Vila has been the conductor and artistic director since 2016 .

Wind Academy "advanced"

A special feature of MON is the "advanced" wind academy, in which ambitious and talented young musicians receive continuous training from top lecturers from the ranks of the Munich Philharmonic or the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra . In 2017 she received the Bavarian State Prize for Music in the category of "amateur musicians".
