history

The association was not founded in its current form until January 1st, 1995, but the association refers to a long tradition of Hessian music associations since 1954. So today's association emerged from the merger of the two previously existing Hessian associations, the Hessischer Blas- and Volksmusikverband eV (HBV) and the Landesmusikverband Hessen eV (LMH).

The Landesmusikverband Hessen eV (LMH) was founded on January 1st, 1969 as the successor organization to the Volksmusikverband Rhein-Main. Its first president was Ernst Lühmann from Kelsterbach. On April 8, 1984, Horst H. Sassik Sen. succeeded him as President and still holds this office today, even after the merger with the HBV to form the HMV.

On November 30, 1969, the Hessian State Association for Fanfare, Musicians, Horns and Music Trains (HLV) was founded with 16 member clubs. The first state chairman was Dieter Krauss from Gelnhausen. Dieter Krauss was replaced by Helmut Rauch in 1972, who in turn was succeeded by Ludwig Treber from Hochheim am Main as the first state chairman. He was to hold this office until the HLV was renamed in 1982. At the delegates' meeting in 1982, the delegates decided to change the name of the HLV to the Hessische Blas- und Volksmusikverband eV (HBV). The board members themselves were not changed. Ludwig Treber was also re-elected as first state chairman in the HBV. He was to fill this office until 1988. Today's association has honored him with the title of "Honorary President" for this long service. After some turbulence in the association, Hans-Dieter Bremer took up the post of first state chairman in 1990. He too should hold this office until the merger with the LMH.

In 2015 Horst H. Sassik sen. retired from the office of President after 31 years. His successor was Christoph Degen.
