The Diocesan Association of Wind Choirs - Bistum Mainz eV is a German association . It organizes 74 wind choirs with over 3500 active and 9000 sponsoring members.
history
After 1870, numerous wind choirs were formed in the Diocese of Mainz . Attempts to form a joint association initially failed. It was not founded until the General German Catholic Day on August 15, 1948. The Mainz cathedral organist Heino Schneider was appointed first diocesan leader of the wind choirs. The association has been a registered association since 1996.
Tasks and occupation of the wind choirs
The task of the member choirs is to participate in church services and celebrations in the parishes. The line-up usually consists of a mixed wind orchestra .
