Registrar

The term registrar is used mainly by brass bands , but also by related ensembles such as B. used marching band . In the classical symphony orchestra the (similar) position is called section leader . The registrar is in charge of a register . The brass music associations offer the C1 course as training. There are different definitions for the register as part of a brass band. Sometimes instruments are strictly separated, so each type of instrument forms a register. Usually, however, several types of instruments that are similar in how they are played (not always in their vocal range) are combined into one register. The most common example of this is the structure of the chapel from the following four registers:

The registrars follow the conductor or music master in the hierarchy within the brass band . In addition to the conductor and the staff leader, they are the decision-makers in musical matters in a brass band.

The tasks of the register manager include the musical training of his register, in particular the implementation of so-called register rehearsals (in contrast to the tutti rehearsals ), representation of the register within the band and the association and the cast (which musician plays which voice) of the voices (e.g. B. 1st, 2nd and 3rd trumpet) within the register.

For years, the brass music associations have been heavily involved in the training of registrars in amateur orchestras and offer various courses.
