Thomas Bauer (born July 27, 1955 in Schrobenhausen ) is a German building contractor and chairman of the supervisory board of Bauer AG in Schrobenhausen.

Family, career, entrepreneurship

Thomas Bauer is a son of the building contractor Karlheinz Bauer and from 1984 to 2018 he managed the family business in the seventh generation. At the end of 2018, he moved to the Supervisory Board and took over its chairmanship. He is married and has two sons.

After graduating from high school in Schrobenhausen in 1975, he did his military service in the Air Force (last rank: ensign ). From 1976 he studied business administration at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (degree: Diplom-Kaufmann ) and spent a semester in the USA. In 1982 he joined the family business . From 1984 to 2001 Thomas Bauer was Managing Director of BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH. From 1994 to 2018 he was CEO of BAUER AG , which has been listed on the stock exchange since 2006 and acts as the holding company for the operating companies of the BAUER Group. At the end of the 1980s, Thomas Bauer drove the internationalization of the company and, from 2001, the restructuring of the group with the three segments Construction, Machinery and Resources.

Thomas Bauer has been a lecturer in construction management at the Technical University of Munich since 1993 , and as an honorary professor from 1998 .

Awards

Thomas Bauer has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon , the Order of Merit of the Free State of Thuringia as well as the Bavarian Order of Merit and the State Medal for special services to the Bavarian economy . His hometown Schrobenhausen awarded him the Golden Citizen Medal in 2007. In October 2013, Thomas Bauer received an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Munich , an honorary doctorate engineer (Dr.-Ing. E. h.), At the request of the engineering faculty for civil engineering and the further development of a Family company to a globally recognized company with great innovative strength ”. The Bavarian Construction Industry Association made him an honorary president in 2016.

Thomas Bauer has been a member of the CSU since 1973 and was a member of the district council of the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district from 1990 to 2011 . Since 2003 he has been the state treasurer of the CSU. Several times he was a member of the Federal Assembly for the election of the Federal President.

After the resignation of Federal Minister of Economics Michael Glos in 2009, he had declared that he would be available for his successor. However, he was not appointed minister. Glos was succeeded by Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg .

Positions

Bauer assessed the announcement by Daimler AG that it would no longer make party donations as "weakening democracy". Bauer accused Daimler of "sneaking out of responsibility".
