Monika Bachmann (born February 24, 1950 in Schwalbach / Hülzweiler ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

From 2004 to 2011 she was District Administrator of the Saarlouis district and from August 2011 to May 2012 Saarland Minister for Labor , Family , Social Affairs , Prevention and Sport in the Kramp-Karrenbauer I cabinet . From May 2012 to November 12, 2014 she was Minister of the Interior and Sport in the Saarland . On November 12, 2014, she took over the office of Minister of Social Affairs Andreas Storm . She has been Minister for Social Affairs, Health, Women and Family in the Kramp-Karrenbauer III cabinet since 2017 and in the Hans cabinet since the beginning of March 2018 .

Life

Education and professional career

In 1973 Bachmann finished her training at a Saarland credit institute. In the following years she was on maternity leave. Then she worked as an independent district manager for a building society. After completing the insurance specialist examination in 1992, she was employed by an insurance company in Saarland.

Political activities

Bachmann was chairwoman of the CDU community association Schwalbach from 1986 to 2005 , where she was a member of the Schwalbach community council from 1989, and from 1985 to 2010 was a member of the CDU Saar's regional executive committee. From 1994 to 2004 she was a member of the Saarland state parliament , where she had been deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group since 1999. From 2000, Bachmann was deputy district chairwoman of the CDU in Saarlouis, where she was also deputy district chairwoman of the Women's Union for many years . In 2004 she prevailed in the direct election as district administrator there against her competitors Reinhold Jost (SPD), Josef Louis (FWG) and Klaus Kessler (B90 / Greens); Incumbent Peter Winter (SPD) did not run for reasons of age. Her term of office as District Administrator ended in 2011. On August 24, 2011, the President of the State Parliament, Hans Ley, swore in Monika Bachmann as the new Minister for Labor, Family, Prevention, Social Affairs and Sport in the Saarland State Parliament. She thus succeeded Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer , who had been elected Prime Minister of the Saarland. On May 9, 2012, Bachmann took over as the successor to Stephan Toscani , who became Minister of Finance and Europe, to the office of Minister of the Interior and Sport in the Kramp-Karrenbauer II cabinet . On November 12, 2014, as part of a cabinet reshuffle in the Kramp-Karrenbauer II cabinet, she succeeded Andreas Storm as Minister for Social Affairs, Health, Women and Family. Bachmann also held this post in the subsequent cabinet, Cabinet Kramp-Karrenbauer III, and has been a member of the government of Prime Minister Tobias Hans since the formation of the Hans cabinet .

Private

Bachmann is Catholic, widowed and has a daughter. She lives in her place of birth Schwalbach / Hülzweiler.
