Friedel Läpple

Friedel Läpple (born June 20, 1938 in Schiffweiler ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

education and profession

After completing school, Läpple attended a teachers' seminar and then studied at the PH Saarbrücken and the University of Tübingen . He then worked as a special school teacher and as head of a special school in the St. Wendel district . Less known, however, is his work as a speech therapist, which he continued to practice alongside his political activities.

politics

The SPD member belonged to the state parliament of Saarland from the sixth to the eleventh legislative period (1970-1999). As chairman of the parliamentary group (1973–1985), head of the Saarland SPD (1970–1977) and member of the SPD federal executive committee (1973–1979), Läpple was the top candidate of his party in the state elections in 1975 ; Despite a majority of votes, the opposition parties SPD and FDP / DPS could not achieve an absolute majority of the seats.

After the change of government in 1985 he became Minister of the Interior in the cabinet of Oskar Lafontaine . He held this office until 1999, making him Germany's longest-serving interior minister to date.

His books Profit Through Disease and Health Without Exploitation , which dealt with the possibilities of reforming the health system, caused a stir in the medical profession in the late 1970s.
