Ulrich Commerçon
Ulrich Commerçon (* 28. April 1968 in Homburg ) is a German politician of the SPD . From 2012 to 2019 he was Saarland's Minister for Education and Culture in the Kramp-Karrenbauer II and III cabinets and the Hans cabinet and has been the SPD parliamentary group leader in the Saarland state parliament since September 18, 2019.

Ulrich Commerçon attended the Schafbrücke elementary school and then the Ludwigsgymnasium Saarbrücken . After graduating from high school in 1987, he did community service at the Diakonisches Werk .
From 1989 to 1993 he studied Slavic language and literature at Saarland University . From 1993 to 1999 he studied political science , philosophy and modern history . In 1999 he was awarded the degree of Magister Artium in Political Science.

Ulrich Commerçon has been a member of the SPD since 1987. From 1994 to 1996 he was chairman of the Juso sub-district Saarbrücken-Stadt. From 1995 to 2002 he was on the regional executive committee of the Saarland SPD. From 2001 to 2017 he was deputy, since 2017 he has been chairman of the SPD Saarbrücken-Stadt.
He has been a member of the Saarland Parliament since 1999. From 2000 to 2004 he chaired the Committee on the Environment. From 2004 he was deputy chairman of his group. In addition, Ulrich Commerçon was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the Halberg district council from 2004 to March 2008. He headed the program commissions of the Saarland SPD for the state elections in 2009, 2012 and 2017 and was deputy chairman and education policy spokesman for his parliamentary group until 2012.
On May 9, 2012, he was appointed Minister of Education and Culture in the Saarland. On September 18, 2019, he handed over the position to Christine Streichert-Clivot . On the same day Commerçon was elected as the new parliamentary group leader of the SPD in the Saarland state parliament.

Commerçon is an appointed member of the regional synod of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland and a member of the Chamber for Education, Children and Youth of the Evangelical Church in Germany .

Ulrich Commerçon is Protestant, married and has a daughter and a son.
