from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Egon Reinert (born September 24, 1908 in Saarbrücken ; † April 23, 1959 there ) was a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ).

From 1957 to 1959 he was Prime Minister of Saarland .

Life

After graduating from the Ludwigsgymnasium in Saarbrücken in 1927 , Reinert began studying law at the universities of Heidelberg , Bonn and Frankfurt am Main , completing the first state examination in 1933 and the second state examination in 1937. He then entered the administrative service, initially working in financial administration and later in internal administration. He was admitted to the bar in 1941 and settled professionally in Saarbrücken.

Reinert had been a member of the NSDAP since June 1, 1933 ( membership number 2,682,929). In 1952 he was one of the founders of the then illegal CDU in Saarland (the Hoffmann government wanted to turn Saarland into a European model region and therefore banned all parties that advocated a return to Germany) and was elected to the party's state executive. In the voting campaign in 1955, he appeared as a vehement opponent of the Saar Statute and campaigned massively for the connection of the Saarland to the Federal Republic. After internal party disputes, he was elected regional chairman of the CDU Saar on May 19, 1957 . This office, which Franz-Josef Röder later took over, he held until his death. His special merit lies in the unification of the Christian camp in Saarland. Under him, the former CVP members began to be integrated into the CDU.

Reinert was elected to the Saarland Landtag in 1955 , to which he belonged until his death. On January 10, 1956, he was appointed to the Saarland government, led by Prime Minister Hubert Ney , and took over the management of the Ministry of Justice and Education. After the break of the coalition and Ney's resignation, who had withdrawn due to disputes within the government, the Saarland state parliament elected Reinert as the new prime minister on June 4, 1957 in its third legislative period.

He continued to lead the “Heimatbund government”, consisting of CDU, SPD and DPS , and thus ended the government crisis . After Justice Minister Ney refused to relinquish his office to the CVP politician Ludwig Schnur , Reinert dissolved the state government and on February 26, 1959, formed a new cabinet made up of the CDU, SPD and CVP. Schnur was appointed Minister for Public Works and Housing in this cabinet, while Reinert also took over the management of the Ministry of Justice. After his death, Röder was elected the new Prime Minister of the Saarland.

Reinert, who suffered from the effects of polio throughout his life, was involved in a traffic accident on April 21, 1959. He suffered serious injuries, which he succumbed two days later.

A house and a street in Saarbrücken and a street in Hermeskeil (Rhineland-Palatinate) are named after Egon Reinert .
