Alois Becker

Alois Becker (born September 30, 1910 in Mettnich ; † September 26, 1993 ) was a Saarland politician ( CDU ).

Life

After graduating from high school, the farmer's son studied law in Bonn , Königsberg and Cologne . He passed the major state law examination in 1939. In World War II he last served as battalion commander before he was taken prisoner. After the war he was a district court advisor at the district court of Lebach and the district court of Wadern and, in 1959, district court director at the district court of Saarbrücken . Also in 1959 he was appointed government director in the Saarland Ministry of the Interior .

Becker, who had belonged to the Saarland CDU, which was still banned at the time, from 1952, was head of the Saarbrücken State Chancellery from 1960 . After he was appointed State Secretary in 1967 , he took over the office of Saarland Minister of Justice in the Röder III cabinet on July 1, 1968 , which he held until January 1974. He was then Minister for Special Tasks until November 1974. During his ministerial tenure, he also held the position of Saarland representative at the federal government. Becker campaigned politically, among other things, for the waterway connection of the Saar and for private broadcasting . As a supervisory board member of the Saarbrücker Zeitung (from 1961), he was committed to the reprivatisation of the publishing house and to employee participation.

He was a member of the Catholic student associations K.St.V. Vandalia Bonn and K.St.V. Borussia Koenigsberg.
