Stephan Toscani (born February 21, 1967 in Saarbrücken ) is a German politician ( CDU ). Since March 2018 he is President of the Parliament in the Parliament of the Saarland . Previously, he was Saarland's Minister for Finance and Europe from 2012 to 2018 and also Minister of Justice in the Kramp-Karrenbauer III cabinet from 2017 to 2018 .

From November 2009 to May 2012 he held the office of Saarland State Minister for Interior and European Affairs, and from August 2011 also the office of State Minister for Culture.

Since May 2011 he has been Deputy Chairman of the Saarland CDU , initially under Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer , and since March 2018 under Tobias Hans . From 2003 to 2009 he was Secretary General of the CDU Saar.

Life and work

Toscani graduated from the Von der Leyen-Gymnasium in Blieskastel in 1986 . After studying law at Saarland University , he completed his legal clerkship with assessor exams from 1992 to 1995. From 1996 to 1999 Toscani was a member of the government in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Bonn.

Stephan Toscani is married and has two children.

  • August 24, 2011 to May 9, 2012: State Minister for Culture in the Kramp-Karrenbauer I cabinet
  • After the failure of the Jamaica coalition, the ministers of the FDP and the Greens were dismissed from their offices on January 18, 2012. Toscani took over the management of the Ministry of Education previously headed by Klaus Kessler .
  • May 9, 2012 to February 28, 2018: State Minister for Finance and Europe in the Kramp-Karrenbauer II cabinet
  • April 2017 to February 2018: also Minister of Justice of the Saarland
  • since March 2018: President of the Saarland State Parliament
