The Von der Leyen-Gymnasium is a school in Blieskastel in Saarland .

history

In 1775, Count Franz Karl von der Leyen built a Latin school that lasted until the First World War . After years of efforts by the city of Blieskastel, the state secondary school was founded in 1956 to give children from Bliesgau the opportunity to attend a higher school without having to travel long distances to St. Ingbert , Homburg or Zweibrücken . To refer to the tradition of the Latin school, the school was renamed Von der Leyen-Gymnasium in 1974 . In 1992 the school administration was transferred from the state to the Saarpfalz district .

building

main building

The school consists of the main building (lessons for grades 5, 9 and 10, specialist rooms), the music pavilion, the small castle (lessons for the upper level, computer room), the administration building, the central building (religious rooms, classrooms, lounges) and the former boarding school (Music room, art rooms, computer room, library, lessons for grades 6 to 8) and the recently renovated Haus Lott (student library, computer room , cafeteria). Excavations are currently taking place around the former boarding school. The remains of the former Blieskastel Castle are being excavated. The most modern of all school buildings is the main building, on the roof of which there are solar cells .

the school administration

The first headmaster was Oskar Uth in 1956. Under his leadership, the original Blieskastel Realprogymnasium developed (only led to the secondary school leaving certificate, so that the first 3 school years had to complete the upper school years at other grammar schools) into a nationally respected full institution, where senior primary students could take the Abitur examination for the first time in 1967. Oskar Uth retired in 1985; he was still a welcome and much applauded guest at school celebrations. He died on July 10, 2011, at the age of nearly 91.

From 1985 to 2010 Lutz Brede was head of the grammar school. His successor is currently Christoph Kohl from Blieskastel.
